The Hallmark Store, the nation’s largest, says it will close next month due to the financial crisis
The Hallmarks of America store in St. Louis, Missouri, is closing its doors this month.
The store’s owners announced in a statement Tuesday that the company is closing after failing to keep up with the pace of sales and a downturn in its finances.
“We were unable to maintain our sales growth in a competitive marketplace,” the statement read.
“We did not have enough revenue to continue operating our business.”
The store will shut down on Jan. 1.
It will remain open until the end of March.
The company is expected to close its doors in the fall.
In addition to its retail stores, the Hallmarks is also home to the iconic National Museum of African American History and Culture and the Hallmark Family Foundation.
The National Museum was one of the first public museums to exhibit the American Revolution, and it is still one of its most popular attractions.
