Trump, who took office on Jan. 20, said the US had seen an “outbreak of disease in our country.”
He said the virus had infected more than 2.3 million people and killed more than 4,000.
Trump said he wanted to spend $1 billion to treat the country, and he urged Congress to fund $1.3 billion in federal grants for people in need.
“Our country is not prepared to handle an outbreak like this, and I want to make sure we’re doing everything we can to help the people of this country,” he said.
Trump said the Ebola outbreak is the worst pandemic in US history.
He said in the past few weeks, the US has seen the worst cases of the virus, and said the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has confirmed more than 5,000 confirmed cases.
